Peace without frontiers

And the show must go on… A few weeks ago two countries were about to start shooting at each other. The presidents of Colombia and Venezuela did what they must do in order to accomplish the only goal which really counts to them: to get the support of more and more people.
Without the people you can not govern nations. That’s how modern democracy works. People give one man the power to delineate its destiny and the man gives the people dreams, visions and maybe even social security.
Mr. Hugo Chávez and Mr. Álvaro Uribe know it pretty well. They know how to control the masses. They understand the weaknesses of the Latin American people, they know that you can keep their devotion by offering them enough circus. The extravaganza of the patriotic discourse is what keeps the masses moving on…
And today, the show goes on with a great gig on the bridge Simón Bolívar at the frontier between the two countries. I’m going to follow it from beginning to end at the homepage of Colombian radio station La W. Great music will be offered by the artists, and that is wonderful…
But do not fool ourselves; no peace will ever grow out of this concert. When the music stops, Chávez and Uribe will certainly continue filling the hollowness in the heart of the masses with their interconnected, populist discourses. The only winners of the crisis are just these two deceiving, totalitarian leaders, not the people, not the peace…
